Artists are contractually obligated to make us buy their music. So you thought that song was so good you took the extra step and got it off of iTunes, put it on your iPod and now you’re sitting at a stop light with it on blast. Stop buying stupid music and feeling good about yourself. And they are indicted for said actions.ĥ. Stop treating young black boys like product that you throw away when it’s outdated or when it turns out that a lyric in the song that shot to the top of the charts about catching a body really is true. When you sign that artist for their awesome you tube video with 1.2 million hits, leave them be. Stop trying to turn every troubled kid you see into the next Tupac. Stop forcing artists with talent to produce crap. You get the chance to see their authentic selves. It is for this reason why I am a huge fan of artist’s on social media. When record labels let marketing trends determine what the artists gets to share, it can sometimes be detrimental to their career. It is this very reason why so many artists have to fight to keep parts of themselves in their work. They want to know if they can sale records. No label signs an artist for how amazing his/her artistic expression is. We later find out that Sara wrote this song because she approached by a marketing executive that told her she needed o write a love song or an otherwise “marketable hit.” Love Song stayed in the top 100 on the Billboard charts for over 40 weeks.
When you hear the lyrics you assume that she is telling an old flame she is not going to be at his beck and call just because he wants her to. In 2007 Sara Barailles released the hit single “Love Song” which was nominated for Song of the Year in 2009. So you know Sara Bareilles right? No of course not your favorite artist is Young Thug. Not everyone is going to vibe with every you song create but at least you can say you stayed true to you. Why would you want to be anything other than your authentic self? When you distort reality for the sake of music you find that the story is more difficult to tell from a point of view that is not your own. In all honesty just because you can bob your head to it doesn’t make it gold. So we all have that moment when we take a stanza and think ” yo, this could be a song.” It’s when you decide to produce these thoughts that we all suffer. Based off of my conversation I figured I might have a pretty good understanding of how to solve the problem.ġ. This documentary dives into how hip hop music has changed in the slightly less than note worthy lyrics through over some pretty good production that we see today.
